After spending a happy night at Kelly's house playing with her dogs (and cat), eating her food, and snuggling with her, Baxter resumed his role as a media darling appearing on the 5 pm news on NBC:
Now that he's done exploring DC (he was unimpressed - too much snow) he'll resume his journey up to New Jersey to find himself a forever home!

BAXTER IS SAFE AND WARM!!!!!!!
After a busy day of sightings, flyering, and feeding stations, Baxter is now resting comfortably in the safety of a nice warm crate with some homemade food!!
Debra and Nancy were out checking feeding stations at around 6 PM tonight and happened to spot Baxter resting in the area that was thought to be his temporary den/hiding spot. They calmly sat on the ground and fed him roast beef to keep him happy while waiting for reinforcements. Kelly Spring dropped everything (I'm not sure she was watching the Super Bowl, but it's possible) and drove through the treacherous streets to join in the hunt. After configuring everybody just right (blocking the two possible exits), Kelly moved in and eventually had Baxter eating out of her hand and then she was able to slip a slip-lead over his head.
Thank you so much to everybody who has helped in this search! It wouldn't have been possible without all of the flyering, emailing, sighting calls, feeding stations checks, etc. Baxter is back to safety because of you!
TONS OF SUNDAY SIGHTINGS!
Baxter is doing a whole lot of exploring today. Too many sightings to describe without a REALLY long post, but check out the map - I changed all the sightings from today to green so they'd be easier to see. He's basically on a big loop exploring out a little big but ending up in the same areas near his fosters' home again which is great news because we have super smelly food out there - hopefully he smells it!!
NBC has also given him some more coverage:

Baxter in the news and a new sighting!
Baxter's foster convinced an NBC 4 news crew to give Baxter some well-deserved press coverage in a 30 second interview that ran at 9 AM this morning.
About 2 hours later Baxter showed up near the Murch School again at 4726 36th Street at the corner of 36th and Davenport!
If anybody's walking distance and can continue to help out with flyering and feeding stations let us know.

Circling
Baxter was hanging out (playing apparently) in the Murch School Playground this morning and then returned to his fosters' front yard at around 11, but bolted before the gate could be shut. Close call! Then a few minutes later he was spotted on Chevy Chase Parkway between Reno and Connecticut.
Update - seems like he's heading up Connecticut a bit - he was spotted a little later turning onto Ingomar.
Another update - after venturing a little further up Connecticut and over to 39th St. Baxter is right back at the Murch School at 36th and Davenport again as of 2 PM. Maybe he'll tire himself out from all this running!
We have some folks out flyering in the snow if anybody wants to join!

A Busy Day!
Baxter was a busy pup today. Check out the sighting map to the right to see all the places he was seen. He was exploring around the point of escape in the morning, then a little further south down to Chesapeake St. during the afternoon, and then back up towards his fosters' home on Fessenden St. again in the evening. His foster even saw him right behind her house again at around 6:30 PM!
Also check out the map to see what's been flyered and what hasn't. As you can see we need a ton of help covering this area - preferably before the blizzard tomorrow afternoon. If you can help at all please let us know. Thanks!
One thing to keep in mind - if you see him please don't chase him! He's super scared right now and we don't want to scare him further away or into traffic. If you see him crouch or sit down and make yourself as small as possible and toss treats in his direction. We'll be posting some other tips for sightings shortly.

Baxter is Lost in DC/Chevy Chase!
Baxter, a scared rescue dog fresh off of a transport, escaped his overnight foster's home on Wednesday 2/3/2010. He is a 30 lb yellow lab mix who is very scared around people so don't approach if you see him. He has been seen multiple times in the area of Fessenden, Everett, Reno, Nebraska, and 36th Street.
Right now we're trying to spread the word to as many people as possible. If you know anybody in the area please send them the flyer and ask if they are able to help.
We're going to need a lot of help flyering the area and setting up feeding stations, so if you're in the area and can help let us know. Let's bring this guy back to safety!
